Charms of Wikipedia

with 3 comments

Wikipedia, a free source for the common people. How many hours have I wittled away at it. I remember starting to use it when I was in college. Still I was reading this book review and the article mentioned how the beginning was like and then vandals occurred.

When I am at the reference desk with students, often the professor will not allow Wikipedia to even be a source, however it would be helpful for the student who is doing a background resource to just read Wikipedia, but don’t take the contents of the site as gospel. There is always validated links at the external link resources that student s can use.

I like the usefulness of Wikipedia and it helps a little bit when the word wiki is spawned in other types of web site technologies.

  1. Couldn’t agree more!!

Look at wikipedia, read the articles, then go and find the info somewhere else and source your paper. Everyone wins!!

    Cheers 🙂
